Week 19

Hello! :)

So.. I may or may not have told the Iraq family to move to Idaho. They're trying to move out of their apartment and find somewhere better to live. I told them that my dad owns a few rental houses and that they could move into one if they wanted! Haha they were totally up for it! There's probably not a lot of work for them in little St. A though.. but how cool would that be to be their neighbors?! Haha I'm telling you.. this family is THEE greatest! :) I really hope they can find a place. But whatever happens, I'll always stay in contact with them. Cause they added me on Facebook the other day! Haha then they started cruising through all of my pictures. They crack me up :) Haha

We helped a recent convert move out of his apartment the other day! Walking up and down 3 flights of stairs in skirts isn't all that fun.. but we did work! Ha. Then we pretty much packed up his whole kitchen. As I was putting something into the box though, I was stabbed. Haha I don't know what I hit my hand on.. but it was bleeding pretty good and it wouldn't stop! I just ran it under the water for a few minutes and then taped it with packing tape. Cause we didn't have any band aids. But it's fine now! I got it all fixed up :)

So I wanted to share this video with you. http://www.mormonchannel.org/video/mormon-messages?v=1289877050001
I love the part when Elder Nelson says, "I was ready to meet my Maker." That bold statement really made me think. Am I doing the things that I need to each day so that I can be ready to meet Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ again? I want you all to think about that. Don't forget your identity and purpose in this life."For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors." Alma 34:32

I know that God lives and that He loves us. :)

I love you all! Have a great week :)

Week 18

Hello! :)

Well this week was full of miracles! First of all, I LOVE that the church videos and mormon messages have translations. We've been teaching our Iraq family about the gospel and it's so much easier because we can show them videos and they can read the Arabic captions on the bottom! It's the greatest thing in the entire world right now. :) And they love it! We showed them a few short videos the other day and they said, "Aww.. we were hoping they were longer!" They've already watched the hour long video of The Restoration and they just want more and more. So we showed them all of the videos that they can watch whenever they want. :) We also gave them an Arabic Book of Mormon and Usif said he's read like 1/4 of it already! I'm just so amazed by these people. They can't get baptized right now because they're not citizens. But I know that when the time comes they will completely accept this gospel. Whether it's in this life or the next. :) And I can't wait until I can just talk to them without a language barrier! Ahh.. heaven will be so great with them. :)

Oh and we taught them about about prophets as well! We told them that we have a prophet on the earth today and they said, "Like a real one? Do you have a picture?" Haha so we showed them President Monson's last talk, "Love- The Essence of the Gospel". It was SO powerful! I have never seen someone watch with such focus before! Their eyes were glued to the screen as they listened to the whole 15 minute talk. :) After we watched the talk, they told us that they believed that President Monson is a prophet of God. They said that they could feel it and that they agreed with everything he said. Ahh.. it just made me so happy! And I completely agree with them. I know that President Thomas S. Monson is the prophet on the earth today. And I know that this church was restored through the prophet Joseph Smith! This gospel is true, people. We are so blessed to have the knowledge that we have!!

We were also able to experience miracles as we gave service this last week. Another investigator that we have, Tami, came to our mission devotional because we cleaned her car! And I mean deep clean... like it was insane. Haha it looked 100x better! So that was great :) As I was washing the outside of it, a lady came up to me and said, "Are you guys Nuns??" Haha not quite, lady. ;) It was funny though! But ya. Tami loved the devotional and definitely felt the spirit. It was an awesome experience!

I've got to get going... but I hope you all have a fantastic week! It looks like you guys had a party at Mesa Falls! Ha thanks for the overload of pics, Tosh. ;) Haha I really do love them. I love you all and miss you! But I'll see you soon. :) Talk to you next week!

Week 17

Hello Flammily and friends :)

I just wanted to update you on the people that we're working with right now. We have 3 pretty solid investigators. The first one is Michelle. She's 21 years old and she has committed to be baptized. But she's still trying to receive and answer and make sure that this is the right thing for her to do. Her dad got baptized last year and he was able to bless the sacrament for the first time last week! So that was awesome. They're both so great!

The next one is Angelica. She's 15 and is seriously thee most adorable thing in the world. She found out about Mormons from a family on YouTube. I think their names are the Shaytard's? She said that super funny and they talk about their beliefs a lot. So that got her interested in the church! She's Russian but I think she's been here for quite a while. So her English is great :)

The last one is Aiden. He's 9 years old and comes from a part member family. His dad isn't a member and really doesn't even believe in God. Aiden is so sweet though and I'm pretty sure he's going to soften his dad's heart. :) He comes to church every week with an elderly lady in our ward and just loves it!

So we have some pretty amazing people that we're working with right now. :) But PLEASE pray for them! Satan likes to get in the way... and he just needs to get out of town. Ha.

I hope everything is going well with everyone! I love you all so much. :) And congrats to the Wilson family for being able to go through the Temple as a family! I'm so happy for you guys. :)

Well I'll talk to you all next week! I love you lots!!

Week 16

Hey! How is everyone doing?

I hope you all had a great 4th of July! Man.. people here in Washington party all weekend long. Fireworks went on ALL day and ALL night. It was so ridiculous! There's an Indian reservation around here so that's where everyone buys their fireworks. Pretty sure they're illegal. They sounded like bombs going off! So my ear drums are destroyed now. No big deal. ;) Ha but we were able to watch some from our bedroom window! So that was kind of fun. But nothing like the Idaho Falls firework show. :) Congrats on winning first and 3rd place in the parade, dad! You have the best looking cars on the block. ;)

Well I feel like I'm in another country here. I've met so many people from different countries. It's crazy! And like none of them speak English... haha so it's kind of a problem. But we were able to teach a family from Iraq the other day. One of them spoke English so she was able to interpret for us. She was actually an interpreter for the U.S. Army! She's awesome :) So we explained the Book of Mormon to them and used the pictures in the front to tell the story. The mom held the Book of Mormon in her hands and then just kept kissing it. She told us that she was so grateful for the book. Then she told us that we are like her daughters. It was just so sweet!! I was dying. They're just so humble and kind!

Another family that we met invited us in and hardly spoke any English. Then they offered us some black tea. We were like uhhh.. we can't drink that. Sorry! They were so confused and didn't understand us at all. Haha I felt bad. I love meeting all of these people though. It's such an eye opening experience!

I came across this scripture the other day and I love it. It's Doctrine and Covenants 68:6. It says, "Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come."

I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior. He died for each and every one of us! But it's up to us whether or not we want to apply His Atonement in our lives. It is always there for us and we can use it in every aspect of our lives. So be of good cheer and do not fear! Because the Lord is with us. :)

I love you all so much! Keep writing me letters because I love to hear from you :)

Love,
Sister Flamm

P.S. Happy late birthday Nathan! :)

Week 15

Well hellooo everyone!

I'm alive :) And things are going great! My companions Sisters Muir and Kirschner are pretty much awesome. We're going to have a great transfer together! :) We live in the basement of a members home. And... we have a bunk bed! Cool, huh. ;) Ha Sister Kirschner was like, "Yeah!! I call top bunk!" Sister Muir and I just look at her and say, "It's all yours!" Haha she was so excited because she said that she never got top bunk as a child. But after sleeping up there the last few days, she realized that it's a lot harder getting up and down than her younger years. Haha poor Sister Kirschner... ;) Actually, poor me! Sister Kirschner snores SO. LOUD. It's ridiculous! Tanya snored when we roomed together and now my companion snores as well. Come on people. It's a good thing I have earplugs!!

Members: Hi I'm Brother so and so. What's your name?
Me: Hi! I'm Sister Flamm. :)
Members: Flamm?! Are you related to Daniel Flamm??
Me: Uhh... maybe?

Yeah. So apparently I have a cousin named Daniel? And everyone and their dog asked me about him this last week. Haha it was crazy. But I guess he owns a house here in Federal Way, but is in Paris right now for work or something. So that's pretty cool! The members in my ward all love him and his family. That awkward moment when you don't know who your cousins are because they're all way older than you.... Haha.

So we're covering two wards here. One is Star Lake and the other one is Dolloff Lake. So I go to church from 9-2! So you guys can't complain that you're too tired to go to church. ;) Haha. No but it's really good! There are some amazing members here who are really helping the work to move forward. I'm excited to be able to serve here. I already know that I'm here for a reason. :)

Well I hope you all have a fantastic week! I'm glad that everyone is going to Idaho now that I'm gone! What the heck is up with that?? Chantell and Tanya. *cough cough* And apparently Zak Wilson? Geez guys. I see how it is! I guess I'll just stay in Washington for the rest of forever. ;)

I love you all and I'll talk to you next week!
Love,
Sister Flamm
